Want to increase your FPS and Graphics performance of your PC while playing Call of Duty Warzone, Vanguard, Black Ops, and Modern Warfare? Well here are the top 5 recommendations for high performance PCs.
1. HARDWARE ACCELERATION
Turn on Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling (HAGS) within your Windows settings: System > Display > Graphics > Change Default Graphic Settings. Please note, do to some inconsistency with certain games and certain updates, if you run into issues with performance, then turn HAGS off!
If you have a HDR monitor, turn HDR on. This setting is great if your not streaming. If you run into issues while streaming or game capture, then turn HDR off.
2. HIGH PERFORMANCE GRAPHICS PER GAME
Select 'High Performance' for your gaming apps within your Windows Settings System > Display > Graphics > Custom Options for Apps. Open each Game and change the setting from the default "Let Windows Decide" to "High Performance." Do this for every game on your PC!
3. GAME CAPATABILITY SETTINGS
Disable Full Screen Optimization and Override High DPI Scaling for your game within the game's file properties. Access the game properties by opening Blizzard, then select Options and select 'Show in Explorer'. You will perform the next step twice, once for the game launcher and the game file itself by right clicking on each one and selecting properties. Within the Compatibility tab, select 'Disable fullscreen optimizations' and then select the button "Change high DPI settings". Here you will select 'Override high DPI scaling behavior' and the scaling should be set to Application. Select Ok and Apply to all. Do this for every game on your PC!
4. DIAL UP PRIMARY MONITOR AND DIAL BACK OTHER MONITORS
Open the Start menu and search Display, then scroll down to select Advanced Display to select 'Display Adapter Properties'. If you have multiple monitors on one PC, you will do this for each display. While viewing the Advanced Settings, select 'List All Modes'.
SET PRIMARY MONITOR IT'S MAX QUALITY AND HERTS (FPS)
SET YOUR OTHER MONITORS TO REDUCED HERTZ (FPS).
This will throttle your graphics card at the source; you don't need Discord at 144 FPS!
SETTINGS 5-7 ARE FOR ADVANCED USERS AND POWERFUL PCS.
*** DANGER WARNING ***
IF YOU RUN INTO ISSUES, CHANGE THESE BACK TO DEFAULTS.
5. MAXIMIZE VIDEO RAM (VRAM)
First, determine your the VRAM of your Integrated Graphics Card (ex: NVIDIA 4090) then it is often best to use the tool HWiNFO64 so you will be able to see VRAM available on your dedicated GPU along with a lot of other great details on your machine.
Next, we will increase your Integrated VRAM for your Graphics card from BIOS. This is not applicable on all motherboards, but most manufacturers do include an option to adjust the VRAM allocation. Restart your PC then enter BIOS settings on boot; depending on your PC typically if you repeatedly press F2, F5, F8 it will enter into BIOS settings. In the BIOS menu, select the Advanced menu and select Graphics Settings (Video Settings or possibly VGA Share). Here you will increase the Pre-Allotted VRAM to the highest setting possible or double the value of your graphics VRAM, then Save. You may need to dial this back if your machine has issues while gaming.

You can change the amount of your Dedicated Video Memory Integrated GPUs from Intel using through the Registry Editor. First, check your current amount of VRAM. Select Start, then search and chose: Advanced Display. Chose the Adapter tab to view the Dedicated Video Memory.
These values can also be accessed through your NVIDIA Control Panel.
6. BIOS UPDATE
Verify your Motherboard BIOS is up to date. Check your current BIOS version: Open Start menu and search: "system info" to find your BIOS Version/Date. Then visit the Motherboard's Manufacturer website to see if you need to update it. If your BIOS version is not at the top, then you need to update it through the Manufacturer's website and follow the instructions there.
7. BIOS RENDER WORKER COUNT
Verify the Render Worker Count is set correctly for each game you play. Correctly setting your Motherboard BIOS is arguably one of the most impactful ways to improve the FPS performance of your PC while gaming. Although, this step is for more advanced users and could require some adjusting/tweaking based on your PC build. That said, you should try multiple attempts to fine tune these settings to get the best FPS possible based on your machine. If your CPU is undersized, you could run into issues with turning your BIOS settings too high.
The default setting for Call of Duty games can be set to the incorrect value for how many cores your system has, which leads to FPS drops and stutters. Here’s how to fix the issue:
Open ‘Task Manager’ and select the ‘Performance’ tab to see your CPU.
Click on ‘CPU’ and you’ll see how many cores your PC has.
Open File Explorer, Select Documents, and open the game file: ex: ‘Modern Warfare’
Select the folder: ‘Players’ then open the file: ‘adv_options’.
Set the ‘RenderWorkerCount’ to equal your number of cores your PC has.
Save, exit, and overwrite the previous file.
If you run into issues with performance after updating your RWC, there could be spikes that cause issues, so it is recommended to dial back your Render Worker Count to be less than your actual cores. You can also play with the Video Memory Scale to fine tune the settings to your machine. See the recommended tables below if you're having issues:
